Subject: Welcome Back to School - Important Updates and Policies

Dear Parents and Guardians of USD #243 Lebo-Waverly Students,

I hope this letter finds you well and that you’ve had a wonderful summer. As we prepare for another exciting school year, I want to extend a warm welcome back to all our students and families. My name is Duane Ford, and as your Superintendent, I am thrilled to continue serving this exceptional community.

Our team has been working diligently to ensure that this year is filled with engaging and enriching experiences for all students. We remain committed to providing a balanced mix of academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities that allow each student to explore their interests and develop their talents.

Important Dates

  • First Day of School: August 15th.

New Policies and Updates

  • Cell Phone Policy: We have updated our cell phone policy to minimize distractions and promote a focused learning environment. Students may use their phones only during designated lunchtime and are required to keep them off or silenced and stored away during class time. Research has shown that reducing cell phone usage during school hours can significantly improve academic performance and decrease behavioral issues.

  • Transportation to Flint Hills Technical College (FHTC): Students enrolled in FHTC courses are required to use district-provided transportation. This policy ensures safety and consistency in attendance. Students must remain in good standing academically and behaviorally to continue attending these courses.

  • Dual Enrollment Policy: To enroll in college courses, students must be actively enrolled in our district. This ensures they are meeting high school graduation requirements while pursuing additional academic opportunities. It also provides necessary support for managing the workload of dual-credit courses.

We are excited to implement these policies to enhance our educational environment and ensure the safety and well-being of all students. As we navigate the new school year, we are confident that the strength and resilience of our community will shine through. Our dedicated staff, dynamic programs, and unwavering commitment to excellence create a solid foundation for our shared success.

Thank you for your continued support and trust in USD #243 Lebo/Waverly. We look forward to welcoming our students back and fostering their growth and development throughout the year.

Let’s make this academic year memorable and successful, filled with enriching and joyful learning experiences for every child.

Duane Ford, Ed.S.
