The new Lebo Learn and Play Early Childhood Center, an initiative by USD #243 Lebo/Waverly, is set to expand its offerings to the community evolving from a program catering to 2.5 to 5-year-olds, to a comprehensive daycare accommodating Infants to 5-year-olds, with provisions for older children up to 8 after school hours and during summer. The district hopes to open the center in August 2025.

This initiative expands our commitment to early childhood development, ensuring a robust foundation for every child. By securing a grant for the purchase of the Stormont Vail Health clinic building in 2023, the district demonstrates prudent financial stewardship, yet additional funding is crucial for renovations to transform the facility into a quality daycare center. This project is an investment in infrastructure and strategic move to attract young families to Lebo, offering them affordable, reliable childcare. It aligns with our educational mission of meeting early learning needs without impacting the resources allocated for our PreK-12 students.

Letters of Support

The administrative team continues to seek funding opportunities and is currently asking for YOUR help! We are looking for key partners throughout the community to write letters of support for grant purposes. This can include letters from community organizations, local government agencies, schools, hospitals, local business partners, community members, etc. that demonstrate community alignment, engagement, and consensus for our proposed project.

How will this expansion project impact the community of Lebo?

  1. Our daycare provides a trustworthy environment where parents can confidently leave their children, knowing they are in safe hands. This enables parents to pursue their careers or educational goals without the constant worry about childcare.

  2. Offering affordable daycare options reduces the financial burden on families, making quality child care accessible to all, regardless of income.

  3. By offering comprehensive childcare services from birth to 8 years old, we make our community an attractive destination for young families. This influx of new residents will contribute to the vibrancy and growth of our area.

  4. The expansion of our daycare services will create new jobs for childcare providers, administrative staff, and support personnel. This not only helps those employed but also stimulates the local economy.

  5. By providing a structured environment for early learning, we help set the foundation for lifelong educational success for children in our community.

  6. Our programs ensure that children are well-prepared for school, both academically and socially, leading to better outcomes in their educational journey.

  7. Our expanded services will allow children to be evaluated for special education needs at an earlier age. This early detection is crucial for providing timely and effective interventions.

In addition to the town meeting, Dr. Veatch and Mrs. Thomas have met with the Lebo City Council and the Coffey County Commissioners. Our administrative team believes these community partnerships are key to the success of the expansion project.

We hope you will consider partnering with us as well by providing a written letter of support.
