USD 243 Lebo-Waverly Schools would like to welcome Dr. Melissa Veatch as the 2023-24 principal for Lebo Schools.
Melissa grew up in Cherryvale, graduating from high school in 2003. She went on to attend Pittsburg State University where she threw track and field and earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. In 2007, Melissa moved to Kansas City, Kansas where she began her career teaching special education at John F. Kennedy Elementary. Over the course of the next thirteen years, Melissa worked for the Wyandotte Comprehensive Special Education Cooperative as a teacher, teacher leader and special education coordinator for grades PreK-12 and served as Freshmen Principal for Washington High School in Kansas City, Kansas. During that time, she met and married her husband, Dave Veatch. Together they welcomed their daughter, Merritt Rose, in 2014. Melissa also completed a master’s degree in special education and earned her building leadership license through Pittsburg State University. Melissa is coming to Lebo from Gardner Edgerton High School where she has served as assistant principal since 2019 while also completing her doctorate in Educational Leadership through University of Kansas City, Missouri.
Melissa, Dave, and Merritt currently reside in Gardner, KS where Dave is a middle school assistant football coach and special education teacher, and Merritt attends Grand Star Elementary. As a family, they spend much of their time chasing Merritt to sporting events, fishing at their family farm in Melvern, gardening, and entertaining with friends.
